Default I'll be using Ithas at lvl 20

Wonderful! Absolutely awesome! I can't speak for other pre order items, but thank goodness the Ithas Bow has some longevity. The common thoughts that prevailed before today, were that the pre order items would be useful at the beginning and then fade away. Nay, it seems the opposite. With the damage potential and the armor bonus, slap on some decent upgrades and you have one mean bow.

Kudos to ArenaNet for some forsight and making us wait for the full effects of these babies.

*applauds*

Censor's Icon: +3 energy, +10 energy if smiting prayers 8, +6 armor if protection prayers 8, +45 health if healing prayers 8. It seems to encourage you to spread your attributes, which I doubt many will appreciate.

Just sounds like a nice item; not overpowered. I'd happily use it if I had it, instead I have an Ithas bow that I have to figure out what to do with. Even if you only took two of those attributes you'd still be doing alright - my smiter would love a +13 energy, +45 health focus. If I could trade you an Ithas bow I would

I really wish you could trade pre-order items... Especially now that we know they are fairly high quality. I have the Kathan Targe, but I have *no* intention of playing a warrior in the near future. I am tempted to swing by ebgames and see if they still have any preorders that they will sell me so I can have the Ithas bow...

I agree. I'm getting the bow and I have absolutely no intention of playing a class that would have any REAL use for it. I want the BoneIdol but I don't even know if a CompUSA exists around here.

Yup. I an see why they don't want them tradeable - you could just crank them out by creating a character, trading it off, then re-creating a character. However, if they instead allotted 4 of them ever, and made them unsalvageable, then with the existence of a vault for your characters you could simply store it in the vault when you delete the character. Perhaps have it so that "salvaging" a special item smiply returns the special item, so that you can un-customise the thing. That would allow it to be traded around, yet would prevent abusive numbers of them being generated.

All of those items have requirements: you will get but a minimal effect from them at your first level so it won't unbalance the game. You should also remember that the european people have an item usable with every class.

Everyone should remember what our handy mods wrote up here over in the guide section on game mechanics:

Quote:
Weapon Requirements

Many of the weapons that you'll find require you to have a certain level in a linked attribute to be effective - Swords that require 9 Swordsmanship, Bows that require 7 Marksmanship, and the like. If you do not meet the requirements on a given weapon, your effectiveness with it will be greatly reduced.

In simplest terms, if you do not meet the requirements on a given weapon it will deal damage like a newbie weapon of the same type. Thus, if you find a 10-20 wand but don't meet the requirements, it'll deal damage like a pathetic 2-4 wand of the same type. However, the weapon will keep all modifiers. Thus, if you were using a 14-20 Sword of Enchanting (+20% enchantment durations) and didn't meet the requirements, it would only deal the 2-4 damage, but you would still get the +20% enchantment duration from the modifier. This includes internal modifiers - some weapons have built-in additions to damage, and these will remain even if you don't meet the requirements. This is most readily apparent on a focus - if you find a normal +10 focus and don't meet the requirement, you will only get +3 energy from equipping it. However, if you get a +12 focus - a +10 focus with an internal +2 modifier - you'll get 5 energy from equipping it, even if you don't meet the requirement. Thus you are always better off using a weapon with a requirement you can reach - unless the only thing you want access to is the weapon's modifiers.
It may be that those pre order items will just take up valuable space for now. According to the mechanics, you are better off with newb equiptment to start. Using the storage chest until you are ready may be the best option for these lovely items.

Are you helping me? I don't quite get what you are trying to say - I know what they do, I am just frustrated that I am stuck with a weapon I will never use - and at the time of my pre-order the only place in Ottawa that had it. I was making a point about why they can't be traded the way they are now - it would allow massive duplication.

I am just trying to say that I can't quite figure out why ArenaNet decided to make those items customized.
I preordere in EBGames: one of the two possible locations. My main character is a Warrior/Necromancer so only one of my secondary characters (Ranger/Necromancer) has any use for it.

Wink I think you're missing...

I think you're missing the obvious solution.
You don't automatically get the item unless you have entered in the key.
So...I would suggest posting on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and see if anyone has an item you're interested in.
Being the first poster, you'd most likely have to give up your key 1st.
As always, be careful with someone that is new posting here.
I'm sure there are some veterans here that might be up for the trade.
There have been a few posts already looking for trades.

I'm personally not interested because the majority of the items aren't tailored to a monk.

I don't think there is an "remove key - retrieve key" option or I would do just that - but I entered my key ages ago to play beta weekends, and as a consequence am stuck with it :P

Can't complain about the Canthan Targe myself,
Armor +14 (req 10. tactics)
Health +45 (req 8. strength)
Energy +2 (req 8. swordmanship and/or 8. axe mastery)

There are items in the game that most pre-order customers will eventually switch their pre-order items for. The pre-order items are good, but not unbalancing good.

The stats on the pre-order items has been changed- refer to this thread for the new stats.

Since there's no reason to have 2 threads on these items, I'm going to close this one- if you have comments to make, please post them in the linked thread.
